Boston Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy was founded in 1995 by Master Roberto Maia. Since that time, Roberto has been committed to providing the best training environment and instruction for his students. Boston Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy was most recently located in Newton, MA, and has now reopened in its new location in Bellingham, MA. Under Master Roberto Maia, Academy has produced dozens of Black Belts, many of whom are now owners of their own regional schools, resulting in one of the largest BJJ support networks in New England.

In October 2024, Roberto was awarded his Coral Belt by Mestre Joao Andrade, 7th Degree Coral Belt and member of the Master's Council of the Liga Brasileira de Jiu Jitsu.
Roberto is widely credited as being a pioneer for the art of Brazilian-Jiu Jitsu in New England. Since the founding of his Adacemy, he has awarded over 50 black belts, with many of his students going on to establish successful BJJ Academies of their own and spreading the art of BJJ throughout the region.
